CHEAD supports a Technical Alliance bringing together technicians, technical tutors and technical leaders within CHEAD membership institutions and creates opportunities to communicate and share best practice.
The Alliance’s overall aim is to assist CHEAD in achieving its strategic priorities by proactively connecting the technical expertise, knowledge and experience into the wider debates and consultations that promote and advance art and design education in the UK.
CHEAD X is a special interest group of the CHEAD Technical Alliance, created to explore, promote and support innovation in emerging and existing technologies across member Higher Education institutions (HEIs) in the UK.
The Alliance is internationally connected and will complement the work the ETHO network undertakes with the support of ELIA.

"The coaching skill base is so expansive and transformative": Introducing Coaching Tools to Technical Leaders
Ashleigh Pearson is a qualified ILM coach and a member of UAL’s coaching network. Her current research interests include critical thinking through making and facilitating interdisciplinary, embodied and dialogic thinking spaces in art and design HE. In 2024-25, Ashleigh was a participant in the CHEAD Technical Leadership programme. We invited her back to introduce coaching to this year’s cohort and offer them some tools.
Director of Membership and Operations, Joanie Magill interviewed Ashleigh to discuss coaching and the tools she introduced to the cohort and why they matter.
