A new webinar series from the CHEAD Technical Alliance Technology Steering Group, following discussions at our recent event at Nottingham Trent University. This initiative aims to explore how different technologies are being introduced across universities and how they are shaping creative education. These sessions will provide a platform to share experiences, best practices, and challenges in implementing emerging technologies.

What is Virtual Production?
Virtual Production blends real-time CGI with live-action filming, using technologies such as Green screens, LED walls, motion capture, and game engines to create immersive environments. It is widely used in film, television, theatre, and education to enhance production efficiency and creative possibilities.

About the Webinar
This session will feature case studies from university technical staff, showcasing a range of approaches, from large-scale capital investment projects to universities integrating these technologies and workflows with limited resources.

Presenters:

Marta Pilarska, Media & Immersive Technical Manager, Edinburgh College of Art

Matthew Robertson, Technical Team Leader in Immersive Media, Nottingham Trent University

Aidan Delaney & Craig Havey, Technical Manager & Technical Team Leader, University of Westminster

The session will be moderated and will include:

  • A series of presentations from university technical staff.

  • Case studies highlighting different approaches to introducing Virtual Production.

  • A Q&A session with the presenters.

  • A wider discussion on challenges and opportunities in implementing these workflows.

We encourage everyone interested in Virtual Production and emerging creative technologies to join us for this session. This will be a great opportunity to learn from others, ask questions, and share your own experiences.
