Professor Tracy BhamraSenior Vice-Principal (Student and Staff Experience) & Professor of Sustainable Design, Royal Holloway, University of London
Professor Tracy Bhamra is Deputy Principal (Academic) and Senior Vice-Principal (Student & Staff Experience) and Professor of Design for Sustainability at Royal Holloway, University of London. Prior to taking on this role in 2021 she held several roles at Loughborough University including Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise) and Dean of Loughborough Design School. She has a BSc in Manufacturing and an MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management. She then went on to complete her PhD in Design for Disassembly and Recycling at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1995. After completing her PhD she worked at Manchester Business School and Cranfield University before joining Loughborough University in 2003. Tracy is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (FIET), the Design Research Society (FDRS) and the Royal Society of the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (FRSA) and a Member of the Institution of Engineering Designers (MIED).
Tracy’s research covers areas such as Design for Sustainable Behaviour and Methods and Tools for Sustainable Design. She has over 150 publications associated with her research and has been awarded over £2.5m of funding for her research from the UK government, research councils and many large organisations. Tracy has supervised over 20 successful PhDs and has acted as an external examiner for MSc, MPhil, PhD and EngD theses in the UK and across the world. Tracy is a member of the International Editorial board for five international journals including Design Studies and the Journal of Design Research. She was a member of the Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory Sub-Panel for REF 2014 and 2021. Tracy is also a member of Council for the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).
