The CHEAD Research Alliance has the following aims:

  • Advise and support the CHEAD Exec on research issues
  • Identify key issues and provide intelligence
  • Disseminate policy updates and submit policy responses on behalf of the Alliance
  • Support research leadership and develop activities and resources to support researchers in the sector
  • Advocacy within CHEAD’s networks and externally

The Research Strategy Group, made up of senior ADM research leaders and REF Panellists, meets regularly to serve the wider CHEAD Research Alliance, see the CHEAD Research Alliance Terms of Reference.

The CHEAD Research Alliance holds regular events for members of the network throughout the year.

Exhibition or curation?
Thursday 2nd May 2019

This symposium will bring together members of the Research Alliance to hear talks from leaders in the museums, exhibition and curation of art and design fields and to explore the key challenges and opportunities facing these interconnected disciplines. Themes will include museums partnering with universities and the impact agenda, public engagement, connections with industry, skills development and a case study of exhibition and curatorial practice as research.

Bodies of work to support art, design and media outputs
Tuesday 4th June 2019

This symposium will bring together researchers and research managers to hear talks from leaders in the research field and participate in tailored workshops to explore current challenges for both research and research managers and how to maximise your submission to REF 2021. The day will also include a comprehensive review of the final REF2021 criteria and guidance on panels, units of assessment, impact and environment statements and interdisciplinary research. Themes will include understanding REF criteria, challenges and opportunities for art, design and media outputs, the diversity, innovative content, multi-platform and formats of arts research outputs.
