School of Art, Design and Computer Science
Our innovative courses across the School are a great response to the changing landscape of Higher Education and the world beyond.
There are exciting plans for a new Creative Centre for our York campus. Due to open in 2021, the Centre will be a creative hub at the heart of our campus and will provide our students with an inspirational space to develop their creativity, as well as provide a unique community venue for the arts in York.
We foster our students’ creativity through our diverse range of facilities as well as through the support of a team of experienced technicians who are on hand to assist our students through their practice.
Students undertake projects which link directly to the workplace and are offered in a range of contexts within which they can practice their skills, from mental health settings, teaching and schools projects to curating and working alongside professional arts organisations. The Design Department at York St John University has well-established links with a number of leading companies across the region and within the UK. Our students get to work on live projects with these businesses as their clients and gain a breadth of real-world experience from this.
Our graduates have gone on to work for companies including Ikea, Argos, Zappar, Aston Martin, BBC, as well as running their own businesses. Other areas of employment include software development, networks engineering, and cyber security.
