The mission of the School of Creative Arts and Engineering is to develop the artists, designers and engineers of the future. Across our three Departments we offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research level opportunities within a wide spectrum of disciplines from Fine Art to Photography, Illustration to Ceramics and Performing Arts to Electronic and Mechanical Engineering.

The Department of Art and Design is made up of thirteen degrees ranging from Ceramics to Cartoon Arts, from Fine Art to Fashion, and 3D Craft to Transport Design. The department encourages students to develop confidence in their imaginative creativity and develop innovative solutions to cultural, material, communication and aesthetic issues of the day. Regional links to the re-emerging potteries industry at the Spode Pottery works are important to the department as are links to V&A Museum’s Wedgwood Collection at the Wedgwood Museum. The department is directly involved in supporting Stoke-on-Trent’s bid for 2021 City of Culture through community arts initiatives and direct promotional material to revel in the city’s industrial, cultural and productive heritage while also celebrating its current cultural productivity.
