The Art & Design Department at Sheffield Hallam University can trace its history back to 1843. Studying in the Department of Art & Design provides students with a practice lead, research enhanced, contemporary Art & Design School experience. We help students to build confidence, creativity, resilience and global awareness. We challenge them to practice with integrity and to achieve high level impact through their work, pushing social, cultural, environmental and economic boundaries. We encourage and support enterprise, experimentation, and adopt a risk based approach through our studio based curriculum, which is supported by our creative and dynamic academics, together with our world class workshop facilities.
As a result of our distinctive approach to education our graduates are confident, curious, enterprising and responsive practitioners who recognise cultural diversity and maximise the opportunities their education provides them with. They are world ready for careers or further study regionally, nationally and globally, they assume leadership roles in the creative industries, work for themselves in innovative and exciting businesses and contribute to developing the our collective futures.
