Loughborough University’s School of Design & Creative Arts.

Formed in 2019, the School of Design & Creative Arts brings together the art and design activities of Loughborough University.

Loughborough University is internationally renowned for its expertise in art and design and is currently 28th in the QS World Rankings by subject, 2019. Nationally, Loughborough University ranked 2nd in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020 and 4th in the Complete University Guide, 2020. Loughborough University also ranked 2nd for design and crafts in the Guardian University Guide 2020.

The School is a member of Cumulus, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media.

The new School has been created with two main specialisms, Loughborough Design and Loughborough Creative Arts, with colleagues from the Institute of Design Innovation located at our London campus also contributing to art and design postgraduate teaching and research. The School offers foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research degrees in a variety of arts and design subjects.

The School has extensive and well-equipped studios, workshops and laboratories in buildings at the East Park of the Loughborough Campus. The Institute of Design Innovation is located at our London Campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The culmination of each academic year are the Loughborough University Arts and Design Degree Shows, which showcase the work of the School’s final-year students.

With a thriving research community, the School has a proven record for creative and scholarly outputs of international excellence. All teaching in the School is research-led and ensures that students’ practice is underpinned by rigorous world-leading research.

Close links to industry further enhances life in the School, and students have various opportunities to work with businesses, including working on live project briefs, enterprise competitions and gaining valuable work experience during year-long placements in industry.

The School is an integral part of Loughborough University, one of the UK’s leading research-led Universities which offers world-class sports facilities and a wide range of social and cultural activities through LU Arts and many cultural societies and clubs Students’ Union.
