Loughborough University’s School of the Arts, English and Drama
Ranked in the world top 40 for the last four years and currently placed 34th, (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2018), Loughborough University is renowned for its expertise in Art and Design. Nationally, the University is ranked in the UK top 3 for Art & Design (Complete University Guide, 2019).
Arts courses are taught at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the School of the Arts, English and Drama. The School offers a lively and supportive community, made up of a diverse student body and a dedicated team of academic, technical and support staff.
It is home to an extensive range of facilities housed within six Creative Hubs:

• Metals, Plastics and Wood
• Painting and Print Making
• Ceramics and Mouldmaking
• Performance and Rehearsal Spaces, Costumes, Sets and Props
Each hub is manned by experienced and skilled technical tutors and the combination of facilities and expertise fosters cross-disciplinary working as well as the exploration of creative boundaries. A thriving research community, the School has a proven record for creative and scholarly outputs of international excellence in the fields of the arts in the broadest sense of that term: visual, literary and performative. All teaching in the School is research-led and ensures that students’ practice is underpinned by rigorous theoretical and critical debate.
Links to industry further enhance life in the School, with students having opportunities to complete live briefs and gain valuable work experience through year-long placements in industry.
