Design and Creative Arts courses are taught at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the School boasts a vibrant research community. Our lively, supportive community within the School features a diverse student body and a dedicated team of academic, technical and support staff.
Our students benefit from a full range of world-class teaching and learning facilities. Our Design courses are housed in a £21 million state-of-the-art building that offers specialist software, workshops and laboratories. Our research facilities include a fully equipped ergonomics laboratory, eye-tracking devices, driving simulators, climatic chambers and additive manufacturing machines.
For Creative Arts, students have full access to newly refurbished study areas, audio-visual equipment, a theatre, music rooms and a variety of spaces for seminars and small group activities. Six creative hubs form the heart of creativity and production at Loughborough. These are:
- Creative Digital Technology and Photography
- Print, Dye, Weave, Stitch and Digital Embroidery
- Wood, Metal, Plastics and Laser
- Painting and Print Making
- Ceramics and Mould Making
- Performance and Rehearsal Spaces, Costumes, Sets and Props.
Our facilities and learning environment actively encourage cross-disciplinary working as well as the exploration of creative boundaries. The culmination of each academic year is the Loughborough University Degree Show, showcasing the work of the School’s final-year Design and Creative Arts students.
The School has a proven record for creative and scholarly outputs of international excellence in the fields of Design and Creative Arts, and courses are taught by academics who are at the forefront of current research in their respective fields. All teaching in the School is ‘hands-on’ and research-led, whereby rigorous theoretical and critical debate is reinforced by practical learning to bolster knowledge.
The School has long-standing, invaluable industry links and students benefit from a huge variety of opportunities as a result of these relationships. These include the chance to complete live briefs and partake in industry competitions, or to gain valuable work experience through year-long placements with a variety of small and large employers.
