I am the Head of the Department of Art & Design at Sheffield Hallam University where I lead approximately 70 teaching staff and 1500 students on integrated foundation level qualifications to postgraduate level. My teaching career began in 1991 as a lecturer in Product Design at Liverpool Institute of Higher Education and since then alongside my work in the UK I have also taught in Higher Education in Spain and New Zealand.

I am a member of the Department of Art & Design Leadership Team, a member of the Art, Design and Media Research Centre where my main research interests lie in design for sustainability and social innovation. I teach on the MA and MFA Design Programme and I also co-lead the SIA DeSIS Lab, an integrated research and practice facility that explores and utilises design for social innovation & sustainability.

I have previously held leadership positions as Associate Professor and Head of the School of Design and Visual Arts at Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand, and as well as running start-up studios I was Design Director and co -founding partner of furniture and product design and manufacturing company RDS Solutions, London.
