I joined Kingston University in 2021 as Head of School – Art and Architecture, in the faculty of Kingston School of Art. I lead the renowned portfolio of creative departments in Architecture and Landscape, Film and Photography and Fine Art.
Between 2012 – 2020, I was Head of the School of Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art, before which I was the Master of Fine Art Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Painting at the University of Wolverhampton.
As an artist, theorist and educator, my research interests span fine art practices including painting, film and installation. I have written extensively and published on the notion of the virtual and its impacts upon contemporary art practice, as well as new philosophical positions for contemporary critical theory in the field of art. Alongside this practice-based research, I am deeply engaged in understanding and proposing new models of pedagogical practice within and across creative disciplines.
These interests coalesce through Artistic Research and the current debates around practice-led methods of research that can create forms of embodied knowledge within and through practice.
I have exhibited my work throughout the UK, Europe, US and China. The painting, ‘(D)welling’, was selected for the John Moores Painting Prize, 2018.
I hold a PhD (practice-led) from Chelsea College of Art and Design, UAL, and an MFA from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
