The Institute of the Arts at the University of Cumbria has specialised in creative arts education on the Brampton Road Campus in Carlisle for almost 70 years and contributes to a history of specialist arts and humanities education in the city dating back to 1822. Our portfolio has established strengths in Art and Design, English and Creative Writing, Media Arts and Performing Arts. Throughout our history, our alumni have gone on to make leading contributions to arts, culture and society and our staff of practitioner-teacher-scholars are recognised for producing world-leading and internationally excellent research through arts practice. Working through partnerships in Cumbria and beyond, our portfolio responds to the past, present and future of the arts and the cultural landscape in which we are situated and aims to have national and international reach and impact.
